Queen Elizabeth National Park Game Drive
The Equator
Boat Safari along the Kazinga Channel
Started off bright and early for a big game drive at Queen Elizabeth National Park where we saw tons of elephants, water bucks, kobs/antelope, pumbas, buffalos, and finally the King and Queen of the Jungle - Simba & Nala!
After the game drivewe went shopping for about half an hour at a small village to buy some wood carvings and other Ugandan souvenirs and BEER, then
made about a 20 minute stop at the Equator and took a few photos.
In the afternoon we went on a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel which connects Lake George with Lake Edward. The Kazinga channel serves as a breeding ground for many African Wildlife. Hippos, elephants, crocodiles, water buffalo and many exotic birds. They are all together in this channel and non of them bother each other.
Our guide Richard then took us to the top of a crator which overlooks both Lake George to one side and Lake Edward to the other side. Very peaceful at the top. We sat up there and drank some wine and hung out for about 20 minutes.
Finally we returned to Ihamba Lodge for a late dinner and to get ready for the next days travel to Lake Mutanda (a 7 hour drive) near the Bwindi Forest where we will be tracking gorillas in a few days (and on my birthday) on May 4th.
The Lake Mutanda Resort (where we are staying the next few days) overlooks the volcanic mountains of the neighboring country of Rwanda - this whole area is known as the "Switzerland of Africa".... *If we have time maybe we'll take a canoe ride (while listening to the Enganga traditional guitar) on Lake Mutanda later today........
Stay tuned for my next entry....
